Kamala Harris promised lower taxes and more affordable housing

The Democratic presidential candidate outlined the proposals she plans to implement if she wins the election in her first major speech

In the first In her big speech as a Democratic candidate for president in the city of Raleigh in North Carolina, dedicated to the economy, US Vice President Kamala Harris outlined her proposals that she plans to implement if she wins the White House, Reuters reported, cited by BTA.

Harris has pledged to introduce a new $6,000 tax credit for families with babies, cut taxes for families with children and lower prescription drug costs.

The US vice president also called for 3 million new homes to be built over four years and tax incentives for builders who build homes for first-time home buyers.

Harris told supporters in North Carolina, a state she hopes to win in the Nov. 5 election, that the US economy is strong but prices are still too high. She promised to focus on the middle class if elected president.

"Together we will build what I call an opportunity economy," Harris said. "Building the middle class will be a defining goal
of my presidency, because I am firmly convinced that when the middle class is strong - America is also strong", she stressed.

Harris' agenda could face resistance from both corporations and the US Congress, which rejected similar proposals when they were made by President Joe Biden.

Harris, who said she would reveal more details about her economic plans in the coming weeks, sought to contrast her opponent, Republican Donald Trump, on a wide range of economic values, particularly on tariffs and taxes. .

Former President Trump has proposed new across-the-board tariffs on imports, an idea Harris rejects.

"He wants to impose what is effectively a national sales tax on everyday products and essential goods that we import from other countries," Harris said. "This will ruin the Americans,", she added.

"This will mean higher prices for almost every one of your daily necessities: A "Trump" on gasoline. Trump Tax on food. Trump Tax on clothing. Trump Tax on over-the-counter drugs," the US vice president pointed out.

Republicans accuse Biden and Harris of presiding over an economy in which prices have risen, blaming rising inflation on their policies, Reuters notes.
