A 50-meter sailboat with 22 people on board sank early this morning off the coast of the Sicilian city of Palermo, reports "Reuters", quoted by News.bg.

Seven people are missing. The Italian coastguard rescued 15 people, including a child, from the sinking British-flagged boat after a storm hit the area at sunrise.

On the boat were two Anglo-French nationals, an Irish national, a New Zealander and a Sri Lankan national, and the rest were British.

The condition of the 15 rescued people is stable. Fire service divers are continuing to search around the ship at a depth of about 50 meters and half a mile offshore.
