The Taliban-led government of Afghanistan said it now has an accredited ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Reuters reported. The agency notes that the UAE thus became the second country after China where the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has its ambassador, quoted by BTA.
The Taliban government is not officially recognized by any other country. Until now, it had an accredited ambassador only in Beijing.
The Taliban also have envoys in several other countries, including neighboring Pakistan, who head Afghan missions such as Sharjah d'affer.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet responded to Reuters' request for comment.
