A drone crashed into a high-rise building in the city of Saratov, and another hit the roof of a block of flats in Engels, with its debris damaging two dozen cars. This was reported by Russian media and social media channels, which covered a Ukrainian attack, possibly aimed at the Engels military airfield, quoted by News.bg.
The well-known pro-war Telegram channel Mash published a video showing a drone crashing into a 37-story residential building and exploding. According to the information, the direct hit was in the "Volga Sky" residential area, where one person was taken to hospital in serious condition. There are also hints of other injuries. In a second post, the neighborhood is designated as "Sky City".
A little later, Mash also published a short video about the hit in Engels, claiming that the drones were of the "Beaver" type - unmanned aerial vehicles that resemble airplanes and have a maximum speed of 150 km/h. Their range is 800 km.
Other channels also published mainly photos of the hits.
There is no information on exactly how many drones participated in the attack. The governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, confirmed the incident but did not provide data on the number of drones that attacked Russia, or at least the region he administers.
The Ukrainian attack occurred shortly after Russian strategic bombers took off from the Engels air base, presumably to fire missiles at Ukraine.
The cities of Saratov and Engels are located opposite each other on the right and left banks of the Volga, and the Engels air base is located about four kilometers from the river.
There is still no reliable information about the consequences, and it is unlikely that the Russian authorities will provide any, especially if there is damage to military facilities in Engels.
The Engels military airport is a regular target of Ukrainian drones, which forced the the Russian military command to disperse its strategic bombers, including sending Tu-95MS and Tu-22M3 to the Far East.
