Britain will send 650 missiles to Ukraine as part of another aid package worth 162 million British pounds ($213 million) for the country's defense against Russia, DPA reported, citing a statement by the British defense minister John Healy before the meeting of the so-called Ramstein format in Germany starting today, BTA reports.
Healey will announce Britain's latest aid package for Ukraine's armed forces at today's meeting between defense ministers of the Contact Group for Military Assistance to Ukraine at US Air Force Base Ramstein. in West Germany.
"This new commitment will provide an important boost to Ukraine's air defenses and demonstrate our new government's commitment to increasing support for Ukraine,'' Healy said before the meeting.
The 650 light multi-purpose LLM missile systems are expected to be delivered by the end of the year and help boost Ukraine's air defense capabilities as it continues to defend itself against Russian encroachment. Britain has previously sent hundreds of such missile systems to Kiev and the latest delivery is expected to be the first part of efforts to increase European defense production to help the country.
The aid is mainly financed by the latest aid package of 3 billion British pounds ($3.95 billion) a year for Ukraine as part of the contribution from Norway and other countries.
