Several residential buildings were damaged and cars caught fire as a result of a Russian drone attack on Kiev, the military and authorities in the Ukrainian capital reported, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Falling debris from destroyed drones caused fires in residential buildings in the Obolonsky and Sviatoshinsky districts of Kiev, the head of the capital's military administration, Timur Tkachenko, reported. He said that several cars also caught fire when debris from the drones fell.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram app that medics were called to the Svyatoshinsky district, west of the city center, where they provided assistance.
Witnesses told Reuters that they heard several explosions, as if from air defense systems being activated.
There is currently no information on the scale of the attack. Shortly after midnight, an air alert was declared in Kiev, its surroundings and in the eastern part of Ukraine, which lasted about an hour.
There has been no comment from the Russian side on the attack, which was carried out against the backdrop of uncertainty about whether the two sides will cease hostilities during the celebrations planned in Moscow from May 8 to 10 for the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies in World War II.
On Monday, Russia announced a three-day ceasefire - from May 8 to 10, to which Kiev responded with a proposal to cease hostilities for 30 days.
Both Russia and Ukraine deny attacking civilians in the war that began more than three years ago.
Igor Taburets, governor of Cherkasy region in central Ukraine, in turn reported that a Russian drone attack late last night had caused several fires in the region. According to preliminary information, there were no injuries, Taburets said on "Telegram".
