The US has decided on the structure of its Golden Dome missile defense system, which will include interceptors located in space.
This was announced by US President Donald Trump, speaking at the White House together with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, announcing the allocation of funds for the creation of "Golden Dome"
“I am pleased to announce that we have formally defined the architecture of this advanced system, which will use next-generation technologies on land, at sea and in space, including space-based sensors and interceptors“, the US leader said.
Trump said the United States has “far more advanced technology” than that used in Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system.
Canadian authorities want to join the US project, and the countries will discuss this issue later, Trump said.
“Canada has called us, they want to be part of this. I will discuss it with them,” the US leader said.
The US leader added that Canadian authorities want to get the protection that this system will create. "As always, we are helping Canada by doing everything we can," he said.
According to Beijing and Moscow, the US program "Golden Dome" is "deeply destabilizing in nature". This US project envisages the creation of an unlimited, global, multi-layered and multi-sphere missile defense system to protect against any missile threats, including all types of missiles of "equal and comparable in strength adversaries", the document explains. First of all, this means a complete and final refusal to recognize the inextricable link between strategic offensive and strategic defensive weapons, which is one of the central and fundamental principles for maintaining global strategic stability, Russia and China point out. In addition, the countries state that the “Golden Dome” project gives an additional impetus to the further development of kinetic and non-kinetic means of pre-launching missile weapons and the infrastructure that ensures their use.
The situation is further aggravated by the fact that the program provides for a significant strengthening of the arsenal of means for conducting combat operations in space, including the development and deployment of interception systems in orbit, which turns outer space into an environment for deploying weapons and an arena for armed confrontation, Moscow and Beijing warn.
