Reading history should not be influenced by the current political moment. This was stated by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at an event dedicated to the memory of victims of political repression and famine, Kazinform reports, citing the Akorda press service.

"Unfortunately, this happens all the time. Historical figures, who until recently were uncontrollably praised, turn into anti-heroes under the rat-like pens of so-called scientists. Conversely, the names of disgraced political figures become popular thanks to the efforts of propagandists, the organizers and executors of the repressive campaign become national heroes. We must remember the names of innocently repressed state and public figures, scientists and doctors, as well as their relatives, including wives. But the past, no matter how tragic it was, should not become an obstacle to the development and progress of our people. We cannot constantly live in the past, perceiving modern realities through the prism of bygone eras. We need a broad, panoramic view of history. “We must get rid of the victim complex, because constantly looking back is a sign of weakness“, said the President of Kazakhstan.

As the Head of State noted, on the path to independence and sovereignty, our people have overcome many difficulties and challenges.

“Therefore, the postulate “Independence above all“ must become unshakable and sacred in the consciousness of our society. It is important to preserve our national unity and strengthen statehood like the apple of our eye. I repeat once again: remembering the past, honoring it is right, but we must only move forward and strive for a better future. Today we are confidently moving forward, implementing the national strategy, carrying out large-scale reforms to build a Just Kazakhstan. Three years ago, as a result of a national referendum, the Constitution was updated, which laid a solid foundation for the country's further progressive progress. We have radically reformed the political system, strengthening the powers of Parliament and the accountability of the government. The Constitutional Court was established, and citizens' opportunities to participate in government decision-making were significantly expanded. “An important step that increased public trust in the government was the introduction of direct elections for akims of village and district authorities,“ Tokayev said.

Systemic reforms have been carried out to establish the rule of law and order, protect women's rights, and ensure the safety of children. The parliament has adopted relevant laws on this topic.

“This is only part of the great work on the comprehensive modernization of the country. Much more work remains to be done. Most importantly, the reforms have changed the political mentality of our nation. Public consciousness is being renewed. This is clearly evidenced by the national project "This Kazakhstan", which has received national support and is perceived as a long-term strategy. Today, together we are building a just state and a harmonious society, and every citizen makes his contribution to this issue. People have believed in the reality of change, becoming a driving force of creative transformations, "Tokayev emphasized.

According to the head of state, a new political and electoral culture is being formed in Kazakhstan, in which pluralism of opinions is harmoniously combined with unity of goals and aspirations. "Dependent attitudes and the habit of criticism are gradually becoming a thing of the past. Today, hard work, the desire for knowledge and progress are held in high esteem. The principle of "Law and Order" has come to the fore. In other words, thanks to the reforms being carried out, a new quality of our nation is taking on visible outlines. And we will continue to walk this path together, strengthening national identity and hardening our unity, - said the president.

The head of state also addressed the youth. "Young people are also participating in today's meeting. I want to tell you: you should know our history well, but this does not mean that you should live only in the past. Our youth should confidently look to the future and move forward with a firm step. We live in very difficult times. Unprecedented trends and phenomena are emerging. The influence of artificial intelligence on social development has not been fully studied. Humanity still has many challenges ahead of it. Therefore, our youth must, first of all, be fully prepared to meet this uncertain future. To do this, the younger generation must be progressive, purposeful, diligent and responsible. According to Abai's testaments, young people must study and understand the sciences. It is important for them to realize the value of sovereignty and always be ready to defend the independence of the country. Then our state will be strong, and the future - bright. I believe in the creative power of our patriotic youth. I wish you success in life! Peace and prosperity of our Motherland!", Kassym-Jomart Tokayev summed up.
