Swiss police said today that search teams have found human remains - a month after a glacier collapsed in the canton of Valais, DPA reported, BTA reported.
A 64-year-old shepherd has been missing since the glacier collapse, but since the body has not yet been officially identified, it cannot be confirmed whether it is his.
The glacier collapse was caused by rock falls on the Kleines Nesthorn peak in the Swiss Alps. The rocks fell on the glacier, which then collapsed.
On May 28, millions of cubic meters of ice, rocks and debris crashed into the valley, burying almost the entire village of Blatten. The approximately 300 residents had been evacuated to safety beforehand.
According to media reports, the shepherd was likely outside the evacuation zone when the incident occurred. In addition, the debris fell over a larger area than experts had estimated.
