Ukrainian military and secret services have destroyed or damaged several fighter jets in an attack on a Russian military airfield, DPA and Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing a statement from the Ukrainian General Staff.
Fighter bombers were hit at the Marinovka airfield in the southern Russian Volgograd region, according to the same source. Ukraine's SBU intelligence service, which also took part in the operation, said that two Su-34 aircraft were destroyed in the attack and two others were damaged.
DPA stresses that the information cannot be independently verified.
Russia's Su-34 fighter jets are the backbone of the tactical air force. From there, Ukrainian positions were shelled with bombs and missiles, the General Staff of Ukraine said.
There has been no comment from the Russian armed forces so far.
The attack was carried out on Thursday evening. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that 13 drones were shot down over the Volgograd region during this period.
Governor Andrei Bocharov said that two districts and the city of Volzhsk were attacked.
In early June, Ukraine launched a surprise attack on Russia's strategic bomber fleet, which became known as Operation "Cobweb". Drones hidden in trucks were brought close to their targets and attacked military airfields located several thousand kilometers from the border. Kiev claims to have destroyed up to 40 fighter jets. Independent sources have confirmed serious damage to more than 10 aircraft.
At night, the enemy attacked the Izmail district in the Ukrainian Odessa region with drones, the chairman of the Odessa regional military administration, Oleg Kiper, reported on "Telegram", BTA reported.
"The main blow was directed at the Vilkivsky municipality. Damage was inflicted on civilian infrastructure. Buildings of private enterprises were destroyed, agricultural equipment and machinery were destroyed," Oleg Kiper's message also said.
The relevant services are eliminating the consequences of the attack.
