Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said his country had received $1.7 billion (C$2.3 billion) from Canada under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loan initiative, using frozen Russian assets, AFP reported.

"I am grateful to Canada and everyone involved in this program. We insist on the full confiscation of frozen Russian funds.

They are needed to pay compensation to the victims of aggression and to restore our state.

This will also be an act of justice to prevent aggressive wars in the future, Shmyhal said in a post on his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian prime minister noted that since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has received about $17.6 billion in frozen Russian assets, with the goal of "making Russia pay for its crimes and destruction".
