The US Senate will hold off on introducing a bill to tighten sanctions on Russia after US President Donald Trump said he would impose tariffs on Russia if a deal is not reached to resolve Ukraine.
This was stated by the Republican Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, John Thune.
“It Looks Like the President Will Try to Do Some of It Himself Now“, Politico quotes. “If at some point the president comes to the conclusion that it would be wise and would give him the extra weight and leverage that he needs in these negotiations, then we will do it. We will be ready“, added Thune.
“We will try to do everything we can, we will coordinate the strategy with the White House and, of course, with the House“, said the senator.
A bill to tighten anti-Russian sanctions was introduced in early April. The main authors of the document were Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal. It includes import duties of 500% on imports into the United States from countries that buy oil, gas, uranium and other goods from Russia.
