The United States does not support France's intention to recognize the State of Palestine, said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“The United States categorically rejects Macron's plan to recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly“, he wrote in X. The Secretary of State called Paris' decision reckless, adding that it “serves only Hamas propaganda“ and is “a slap in the face of the victims of October 7.

On the evening of July 24, Macron announced that France would officially recognize Palestinian statehood at the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly in September. According to him, “the most important thing now is the immediate cessation of the war in Gaza and the provision of assistance to the civilian population“. He also called for the demilitarization of the Palestinian Hamas movement, ensuring security and reconstruction of Gaza. According to Macron, it is necessary to guarantee the viability of the State of Palestine and “to allow it, by accepting its demilitarization and fully recognizing Israel, to contribute to the security of all peoples in the Middle East“.

Ottawa will work actively for the recognition of the Palestinian state in the UN. This was announced by the head of the Canadian government, Mark Carney.

“Canada supports the principle of two states, which guarantees peace and security for the people of Israel and Palestine“, Carney wrote in X. He indicated that Ottawa will “work actively to achieve this goal in all organizations“, including at a meeting of foreign ministers at a UN conference dedicated to this issue.

The prime minister added that Canada condemns the inability of the Israeli government to prevent the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
