The State Department has approved the possible sale of self-propelled artillery equipment and repair services for M109 to Ukraine for a total of $150 million.
This was announced by the Pentagon's Security Cooperation Agency, which is responsible for the supply of military equipment and weapons abroad under intergovernmental contracts.
According to the statement, the Ukrainian leadership had previously requested “M109 repair equipment and services“ from the United States for this amount. The main contractors will be BAE Systems, Daimler Truck North America and Allison Transmission Inc., and the work is planned to be carried out in the EU.
The document states that the sale of equipment and services to Ukraine will serve to “strengthen its ability to repel current and future threats“. At the same time, US authorities claim that the sale will be “consistent with US foreign policy and national security objectives“.
The proposed sale of this equipment and services “will not disrupt the fundamental balance of power in the region“ and “will not require the deployment of additional US government representatives or contractors in Ukraine“, the Pentagon agency assures.
