US President Donald Trump said he was considering secondary sanctions on Russia amid the war in Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing his statement to the media made upon his departure for Scotland, BTA reports.

"We may have to impose secondary sanctions on Russia", Trump said.

Trump rejected French President Emmanuel Macron's plan to recognize Palestinian state at UN General Assembly in September.

"What he says doesn't matter", Trump told reporters at the White House. "He's a very good man. I like it, but that statement has no weight," the US president added.

"Hamas" didn't really want to make a deal. I think they want to die. And that's very, very tough," the US president said after the ceasefire talks collapsed.

He had earlier said there was a 50% chance the US would reach a trade deal with the European Union. Washington may not reach a negotiated trade deal with Canada, Trump added. "We haven't had much luck with Canada. "I think Canada could be a country where we just have tariffs, not negotiations," the US leader said.

Trump added that he had a good meeting with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and was left with the impression that Powell might be ready to lower interest rates.

Trump clashed with Powell during a visit to the US central bank and criticized the cost of renovating two historic buildings at its headquarters. Earlier this week, the US president called Powell a "fool" for not responding to the White House's request for a significant reduction in borrowing costs, but said he had no intention of firing Powell, as he has often hinted he would.

Trump, dogged by questions about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, left for Scotland on Monday. He will combine golf with politics on the trip, mostly out of the public eye. Trump plans to visit his golf resort in Turnberry on the west coast of Scotland, where he will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday, before heading to his own sprawling golf course near Aberdeen.
