The United States must accept that the reality has changed since past summits between the two countries and that no future dialogue will end the nuclear program, said Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who is believed to be speaking on behalf of her brother, state media KCNA reported, quoted by BTA.

Kim Yo-jong added that the personal relationship between Kim and US President Donald Trump "is not bad".

But if Washington intends to use personal relations as a way to end North Korea's (DPRK) nuclear program, its efforts will only be the subject of "mockery", she stressed in a statement published by the KCNA.

"If the United States fails to accept the changed reality and continue to cling to the failed past, the DPRK-US meeting will remain "hope" for the American side," she said.

According to her, North Korea's capabilities as a nuclear state and the geopolitical environment have changed radically since Kim and Trump held three meetings during the US president's first term.

"Any attempts to deny the DPRK's status as a nuclear state... will be categorically rejected," she said.

Trump has said he has an "excellent relationship" with Kim. The White House said the president was open to the idea of communicating with the isolated North Korean leader, Reuters recalls.

Asked about the North Korean statement, a White House official said Trump remained committed to the goal he set for the three summits he held with Kim during his first term.

"The president is committed to those goals and remains open to dialogue with Chairman Kim to achieve the complete denuclearization of North Korea," the White House official said.

At their first meeting in Singapore in 2018, Trump and Kim signed an agreement in principle to make the Korean Peninsula a nuclear-free zone. The next summit in Hanoi the following year failed due to disagreement over the lifting of international sanctions imposed on Pyongyang.
