Yellow and orange codes for dangerously high river levels in most regions of Romania were issued by the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management of the country. In Bistrica-Nasaud, the highest level of warning is in effect - red code, local media reported, quoted by BTA.
The Romanian government will provide aid to support those affected by the floods in the counties of Suceava and Neamt, Prime Minister Ilie Bolozhan announced in the meantime at a press conference broadcast live on the Internet. He also informed that by the end of the day, the head of the Romanian Department of Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, will arrive on site to carry out inspections in the cities and villages affected by the floods.
President Nikusor Dan also expressed his sympathy for the flood victims and thanked the intervention teams.
„I am deeply moved by the loss of life and the destruction caused to entire communities by the devastating floods in (the Romanian region - ed.). Moldova. "My thoughts are with the bereaved families and all those who were forced to leave their homes in the face of the merciless force of nature," the head of state wrote on his official Facebook profile.
He said he was in constant contact with local and national authorities to coordinate interventions and stressed the need for sustainable investment in infrastructure to protect against natural disasters.
In this context, Romanian MEP from the National Liberal Party Daniel Buda officially asked the European Commission to activate European support following the floods that affected Suceava and Neamt counties.
The strong storms that hit the mountainous region on Sunday and Monday devastated several settlements and left apocalyptic scenes in their wake. Three people lost their lives as a result of the extreme weather events, and the material damage is enormous.
