Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that during the visit to Russia of Steve Witkoff, special envoy of US President Donald Trump, significant progress was achieved and expressed hope that the talks will continue in Alaska, BTA reports.
“We do not make preliminary predictions. We know that we have arguments, our position is clear and categorical. We will present them“, Lavrov emphasized to the “Russia-24“ television channel.
These will be the first negotiations between heads of state of Russia and the US since June 2021, when Vladimir Putin met in Geneva with then US President Joe Biden. According to TASS, Putin will also become the first Russian leader in history to visit Alaska.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the meeting between Putin and Trump will begin with a "one-on-one" conversation with only interpreters, after which they will be joined by five members of each country's delegation.
The main topic will be the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, but the leaders are also expected to discuss broader issues related to global security, as well as current international and regional problems.
