Three people, including a two-year-old child, were killed overnight in a Russian airstrike on a residential area of Kharkiv, Reuters reported, citing Ukrainian authorities. A total of 17 people were injured, including six children aged between 6 and 17.

According to the governor of Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegubov, the attack was carried out by drones in the early hours of the day, and earlier in the night the city was also hit by a ballistic missile. “The number of injured is constantly growing“, Sinegubov warned on the “Telegram“ app.

Kharkov Mayor Igor Terekhov confirmed that three people were killed and 17 people were injured. “A woman was just rescued from the rubble – she is alive”, he said, adding that there may be more people buried under the collapsed buildings.

According to Ukrainian emergency services, the missile strike broke about a thousand windows in apartment buildings. Some residents were evacuated to check the buildings for safety.

Kharkov, Ukraine's second largest city, has been regularly targeted by Russian drone and missile strikes since the start of the war in February 2022.

In parallel with the attacks on Kharkiv, Russian strikes also hit Sumy Oblast. Two people were injured there, and dozens of homes and an educational institution building were destroyed. “The enemy continues to deliberately target civilian infrastructure in Sumy Oblast – "and at night," said regional governor Oleg Grigorov.

For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry announced, quoted by RIA Novosti, that Russian air defense shot down 23 Ukrainian drones during the night.
