Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that during the Russian-American summit in Alaska it became clear that US President Donald Trump and his team sincerely strive for long-term and lasting peace in Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Lavrov noted that the atmosphere of the meeting between Trump and Putin was good.

„There was a good atmosphere there (in Alaska), which was also reflected in the statements of the two presidents after the talks. It was a useful and constructive conversation. It was clear that the American head of state and his team sincerely want to achieve a result that is long-term, lasting and reliable“, Lavrov said, quoted by TASS.

He drew a parallel between the constructive position of the United States and that of Europe, whose leading leaders participated in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump at the White House.

“The US position differs from that of the Europeans, who stated that a ceasefire was enough, after which they would continue to supply weapons to Ukraine“, Lavrov added.

The Russian minister stressed that after the meeting in Alaska, Trump and his team are beginning to better understand the need to address the root causes of the crisis. Something that President Putin has repeatedly emphasized.
