EC President Ursula von der Leyen said that Brussels is granting Kiev additional financial assistance of 4.05 billion euros ($4.7 billion), DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The information on the new EU funds was announced earlier on Friday by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.
"The EU's solidarity with Ukraine is unwavering", wrote President von der Leyen on the social network "Ex" on the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day. The disbursement of over €4 billion demonstrates the EU's strong commitment to the country's recovery and future, she added.
The new funds come as NATO and EU member states demonstrate unity with US President Donald Trump over his diplomatic efforts to arrange a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The EC said €3.05 billion of the financial assistance comes from the Ukraine Recovery and Integration Facility, a programme worth up to €50 billion covering the period 2024-2027.
The remaining €1 billion is being provided as a loan, which is part of the G7's Emergency Revenue Acceleration Loans (ERA) initiative, worth a total of around €45 billion.
The EC said the funds were also made possible by the repeal of a law that would have limited the independence of central banks. anti-corruption authorities of Ukraine. The EC welcomed this step and stressed that rule of law and anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine remain crucial for its further path towards EU membership.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, the EU and its member states have pledged nearly €169 billion in aid to Kiev.
