Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived in Kiev today, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

“On Ukraine's Independence Day, at this critical moment in their country's history, Canada is strengthening its support and efforts for a just and lasting peace“, Carney wrote on the social network “Ex“.

The chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Andriy Yermak, welcomed the visit. “On this special day - Ukrainian Independence Day, it is especially important for us to feel the support of our friends. "Canada always stands by us," Ermak wrote on the Telegram app.

Last night, the parliament building in Ottawa was lit up in yellow and blue - the colors of the Ukrainian flag - as a sign of solidarity. The same gesture was made with the Canadian Prime Minister's Office, Ukrinform reported, showing photos posted on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian Embassy in Canada.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also congratulated Ukraine on its national holiday. "The United States is committed to the future of Ukraine as an independent state," he said in a statement released by the State Department.

According to Rubio, Washington believes that an agreement will be reached that upholds Ukraine's sovereignty, guarantees its long-term security, and leads to lasting peace.
