Health authorities in Romania have registered a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks, Digi 24 TV reported, BTA reports.

Although most cases are mild or moderate, experts warn that the new wave indicates active circulation of the virus among the population.

According to the National Institute of Public Health, 3,850 new cases of COVID-19 were reported between August 18 and 24, an increase of 87.2% compared to the previous week.

Dr. Mihai Craiu explained to Digi 24 that two main types of the disease are currently observed in Romania. The first is similar to the flu with respiratory complaints and muscle pain. The second includes vomiting and diarrhea, which poses a risk of dehydration in young children.

“The risk is significant against the backdrop of the beginning of the active season in kindergartens“, the specialist warned.
