US President Donald Trump urged Chinese President Xi Jinping not to forget American aid during World War II and asked him to convey greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at the military parade in Beijing.
“May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a wonderful and memorable holiday. Please convey my warmest greetings to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un as you plot against the United States of America,“ he wrote on Truth Social.
“The big question that needs to be answered is whether Chinese President Xi will mention the enormous help and "blood" that the United States of America has given to China, for to help it defend its freedom from a very unfriendly foreign invader. Many Americans have died in China's struggle for its victory and glory. I hope they will be justly honored and remembered for their bravery and sacrifice," he said.
At the time Trump posted this, Chinese President Xi Jinping was reviewing troops in Tiananmen Square in Beijing ahead of a military parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Russian President Vladimir Putin and heads of state and government from 24 other countries are attending the event.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) must accelerate the building of a world-class army and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, Chinese President Xi Jinping said before the parade.
“The People's Liberation Army has always been a heroic army that "The party and the people can fully trust," Xi said. "All officers and soldiers must faithfully perform their sacred duty, accelerate the building of a world-class army, and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity." He said the PLA should "provide strategic support for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and make greater contributions to world peace and development." Chinese President Xi Jinping paid tribute to World War II veterans. "I express my deepest respect to the veterans, comrades, patriots and generals who fought in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression," Xi said. He thanked the Chinese people, including overseas Chinese, for their significant contributions to the victory in war.
“I express my sincere gratitude to the governments of foreign countries and foreign friends who have supported and helped the Chinese people in the fight against aggression,“ said the Chinese leader.
