Kirill Budanov: We cannot intercept Oreshnik

Moscow is preparing the largest rearmament program since the 1980s, said the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine

The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov admitted that Ukraine is not capable of intercepting the Oreshnik missile.

“This is a very serious weapon. We will not be able to intercept it“, he said in an interview with the YouTube channel “Apostrophe“.

On November 21 last year, Russia struck a large Ukrainian military-industrial complex in Dnepropetrovsk, testing the Oreshnik medium-range system. The strike was carried out in response to the use of American and British weapons by the Ukrainian armed forces.

In early August, President Vladimir Putin announced that the first serial Oreshnik missile had been manufactured and delivered to the troops.
As the head of state noted, when used in a group, a strike using this complex is comparable to the use of nuclear weapons, but is not considered a weapon of mass destruction.

Moscow is preparing the largest rearmament program since the 1980s. As early as 2030, Russia could attack Europe, Budanov said in an interview with the program "Khod Tuzova" on Apostrophe TV, quoted by FOCUS.

He noted that at the moment such a threat to European countries does not exist.

According to him, such a forecast is related to the "plans and dreams" of the Russian Federation.

"They are planning and will prepare", Budanov adds.

The head of the GRU adds that Europe knows about this threat. How they will react to this - time will tell.

"A large-scale weapons development program is currently being prepared. This is essentially the rearmament of the Russian Federation in the period until 2037. The strike rate there is until 2030. This is the largest program since the 80s. Currently, it is estimated at about 1.2 trillion dollars, intended entirely for rearmament. "This is not the budget of the Russian Ministry of Defense, but funds intended entirely for modernization and rearmament programs. These are serious programs and serious funds," Budanov further commented.
