BMW will expand the M2 range with an xDrive all-wheel drive variant, according to information leaked on the Bimmerpost forum. This turn of events comes as no surprise as BMW has previously hinted at the possibility of an M2 xDrive model. The upcoming M2 xDrive will be equipped with components manufactured by Magna Powertrain, similar to the system found in the M4 Competition xDrive.
Although the current M2 offers a manual transmission option, the introduction of xDrive will likely mean the end of the road for the mechanical setup in future M2 models. Rumor has it that to further improve the M2's performance, BMW is also developing an M2 CS variant, which is expected to pack around 525 horsepower. This will position the M2 CS as a more track-focused alternative to the standard M2 and M2 xDrive.
These developments underline BMW's desire to expand the M2 range and offer customers a wider range of performance options. However, the potential end of the manual transmission in the M2 is a significant blow to driving enthusiasts who prefer the immersive experience of three pedals.
