The authorities of Kazakhstan and Mongolia are working to expand cultural and economic ties. In this regard, they plan to build a new road that will connect the two countries. The majority of the route is expected to be laid through Russian territory in order to reduce the route by almost half and optimize the route, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan announced.
The construction of a new road was discussed at a meeting on cooperation in the transport sector between Kazakhstan and Mongolia. According to the ministry, the road will pass through the two largest cities of the East Kazakhstan region - Ust-Kamenogorsk and Ryder, the settlement of Tuekta in the Republic of Altai and to the border with Mongolia.
„The majority of the route passes through the territory of the Russian Federation; if the Russian side agrees to build the road, the route will be optimized to 837 km. Currently, the existing highway Ust-Kamenogorsk - Rubtsovsk - Barnaul - Tuekta - the border of Mongolia is 1604 km", says the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Transport, part of the road on the Kazakhstan side with a length of 189 km has already been built, 62 km of the route will be repaired.
Kazakhstan and Mongolia do not have a common border, but from the end point in the eastern part of Kazakhstan to the border with Mongolia, the distance in a straight line is about 40 km.
