US Department of Transportation fines Lufthansa $4 million for refusing to board passengers of Jewish origin. This is said in a statement by the US Department.
The ministry said it had received more than 40 complaints related to a flight from New York to Budapest connecting in Frankfurt am Main in May 2022. An investigation found that 128 passengers were denied boarding on connecting flights flights at the airport due to "misconduct" several people who did not comply with the requirements of the crew.
Those who complained to the US Department of Transportation said that Lufthansa treated all passengers wearing traditional Orthodox Jewish clothing as one group, despite the fact that most of them did not know each other, and accordingly denied them boarding a flight to Budapest.
The department noted that this is the largest fine ever imposed for discrimination.
