The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and the American technology corporation Intel have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the development of a next-generation quantum computer, the Nikkei Asia newspaper reported, citing its sources.
The plans are to create a computer with several tens of thousands of qubits by 2030, which is significantly more than in modern quantum computers. The development will require about 65.3 million USD. Work on the creation of the device will begin this spring, the publication writes.
In January, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that increasing the power of the quantum computer is among the strategic tasks of the Russian Federation. He added that the government has set goals for "intensifying work on the production of microelectronics and increasing the power of the Russian quantum computer".
