Kazakhstan does not talk about retaliatory measures against US tariffs - 1

The Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan is preparing an official comment on the US decision to introduce a 25% tariff on all goods from the republic from August 1. There is no talk of retaliatory measures, the ministry specifies.

“In connection with the introduction of a 25% tariff on goods from Kazakhstan by the US, the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan is preparing an official response“, said the official representative of the ministry, noting that it will be published soon.

The ministry explained that the comment should not be interpreted as a decision on retaliatory measures. “There is no talk of retaliatory measures“, the official representative of the department said.

On July 7, Trump published the text of a message to the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on his page on the social network Truth Social with a decision to introduce a 25% tariff on imports from Kazakhstan from August 1. The text of the letter notes that if Astana decides to introduce retaliatory tariffs against Washington, the United States will increase its tariff rate.

Kazakh political observer Gaziz Abishev earlier expressed the opinion that the introduction of American tariffs will not affect investments in Kazakhstan. He also believes that the government of the republic will most likely “take a wait-and-see position and will not introduce any countermeasures“.

The volume of trade between Kazakhstan and the United States in 2024 amounted to 4.2 billion USD. In May, the state agency “Kazinform“, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, reported that based on the results of 2015-2024, the United States entered the top ten countries that invested the most in the country's economy - 31.1 billion USD.
