A new “K“ visa for young foreign professionals in the field of science and technology will come into effect in China on October 1, the State Council of the People's Republic of China announced.
The new visa is designed to expand opportunities for international exchange and cooperation. Its holders will receive a wider range of privileges compared to the existing 12 types of visas, including an increase in the number of entries allowed, an extended period of validity and a longer stay.
Holders of the “K“ will be able to participate in educational, cultural and scientific and technical exchange programs, as well as engage in entrepreneurial and business activities in China.
In addition to the established criteria for age, education and professional qualifications, the visa does not require an invitation from a Chinese employer or organization, which greatly simplifies the application process.
The introduction of the new visa category comes against the backdrop of the consistent easing of visa rules to expand international contacts. As of the end of July 2025, China has established a unilateral visa-free regime or mutual visa exemption with 75 countries.
