The European Union should be ready to terminate the trade agreement with the US if the country's President Donald Trump does not stop putting pressure on the community over the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA).
„We can be nice, polite, try to find ways to solve problems and resolve disagreements, but we cannot agree to everything that the US demands. We cannot submit to the will of a third country“. This opinion was expressed by the Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for competition issues, Teresa Ribera, in an interview with the British edition Financial Times. The EC Vice-President added that the community “cannot sacrifice its values just to take into account the concerns of other countries”.
Ribera specifically emphasized that the EU will not stop investigating American technology giants because of Trump's threats. According to her, these companies “have huge profits in the European market and they should be subject to the same laws and rules as any other player, regardless of where their headquarters are“.
Earlier, Trump said that the US was ready to impose additional tariffs on goods from those countries whose digital rules, in his opinion, discriminate against American companies. In addition, Reuters, citing sources, reported that the Trump administration is discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions against the EU or representatives of European countries because of the Digital Services Agreement
