IMF mission arrives in Kiev to discuss country's budget - 1

Representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have arrived in Kiev for a week-long visit, reported Vladislav Rashkovan, IMF Deputy Director for Ukraine.

“We arrived in Kiev late in the evening with the IMF team. I will be glad to see you in the city in the next 7-8 days“, he wrote on Facebook.

The National Bank of Ukraine earlier noted that Kiev may receive a new long-term financing program from the IMF, which will include budget financing and defense spending. At the same time, a four-year financing program is already in effect for Ukraine, within the framework of which in early July Kiev received the ninth credit tranche of USD 500 million from the IMF for budget spending. In total, the IMF has already transferred 10.6 billion USD to Kiev.

In March 2023, the IMF approved a four-year financing program for Ukraine in the amount of 15.6 billion USD. To receive funds, Kiev must fulfill certain obligations - the so-called structural beacons. Money from the IMF is received in separate tranches after an audit of the fulfillment of these conditions. The fund's experts assess Kiev's implementation of the terms of the memorandum on economic and financial policies, in particular, budget execution, the state of international reserves and the implementation of reforms.
