Atanas Slavov: We are going to the elections because of the anti-corruption and whistleblower protection laws - 1

GERB and DPS asked us to go to elections because of the anti-corruption and whistleblower protection laws. This is what the national representative from "We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria" told journalists in the parliament. (PP-DB) Atanas Slavov, BTA reported.

„Today we are here to share two specific reasons why GERB and DPS asked us to go to elections. The first reason is that the anti-corruption law was adopted six months ago, and an independent depoliticized commission should have been elected by now," Slavov said, adding that this was blocked and is not happening.

The second reason is that a year ago the whistleblower protection law was passed, which was then passed with a practical amnesty for the time of GERB's administration, and we wanted to fulfill the criteria of the European Commission (EC) that the protections apply retroactively in time, the deputy added.

Today we will introduce the law for the protection of whistleblowers, said his colleague Stoyu Stoev, and expressed hope that the National Assembly for the fourth time will be able to pass legislation to protect whistleblowers.

About the rules – you know, a month ago we submitted the rules with reflected EC comments, GERB submitted them last week, recalled Stoev. He explained that since the beginning of this week, there has been an evaluation of the two EC projects, so there is no problem in considering them.

The MP called on the people's representatives in the weeks they have left to adopt all the measures that are under the second payment under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan (RPS). According to him, these are four measures - the whistleblower protection law, the law on bankruptcy of natural persons, the rules for the anti-corruption commission and the climate neutrality road map.

For six months, these bills and draft decisions have not moved to the National Assembly, he pointed out and added that the responsibility lies with the parliament to make the second payment under the PVU. So I call on my colleagues in the remaining weeks to put aside political passions and to adopt bills useful for our country, added Stoev.

He said that GERB did not comply with the comments of the EC in any way and the comments continue to be negative. And the EC directly says that if they are accepted in this form, we will not fulfill the goal that is set in the PVU, added Stoev.

In response to a question whether it was discussed at the presidential council or with GERB and DPS when the votes will be taken, Stoev said that on these points of the PVU both for the commission and for the whistleblowers, communication has stopped.

Stoev also commented on the information presented by GERB leader Boyko Borisov earlier that the state treasury does not have BGN 9 billion, but BGN 6 billion. According to the PP-DB deputy, this is "speculation". Yesterday from “We continue the change“ came out with a position on the occasion of the statement of the acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova on the size of the fiscal reserve. The reserve at the end of March was BGN 9.9 billion, according to the position sent by the party's press center.

Atanas Slavov was asked to comment on the photos with Boyko Rashkov that appeared in the public space. According to the deputy, if the photos were evidence, they would be included in the case. Yesterday, PP-DB MP and former Minister of Internal Affairs Boyko Rashkov commented that he had not received information that Marin and Stefan Dimitrovi were engaged in criminal activity. The two men, together with the former director of the "Customs" Agency Petya Bankova are accused of participating in a criminal group.
