The cameras of the toll system will be able to monitor not only proper payment of tolls, but also compliance with speed limits. This became clear from the interview of Rumen Mutafchiev, director of the National Toll Administration, in the program "The Day Begins". according to BNT.
Mutafchiev explained that the system is being prepared to measure the average speed of vehicles in certain sections of the road network. However, three key steps are required for this functionality to work.

Technical upgrade: The system must be equipped with special software that allows the calculation of the average speed. This process is already underway.
Legislative changes: There is a need to introduce clear legal provisions to regulate the use of the toll system for speed control. Mutafchiev pointed out that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) is working on these changes.
Certification: The Bulgarian Institute of Metrology must certify the system to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the measurements.
The director of the National Toll Administration expressed hope that the system will be ready for use as soon as possible. He emphasized that one of the key moments in the legislative changes is the definition of the term "average speed" in the context of traffic control.
The introduction of this new functionality of the toll system is expected to contribute to increasing the safety of road traffic.
