Ognyan Minchev: Fragile Bulgarian democracy will be further reduced under a presidential republic - 1

When 1/3 of the citizens bother to go vote, it means we have a creeping process of delegitimization of the political system, which opens spaces both for the reform of this system, with the aim of returning at least part of the voters to it, and for its collapse in favor of unfavorable alternative options for governing Bulgaria.

This is what political scientist Prof. Ognyan Minchev told BNR.

According to him, the fragile Bulgarian democracy will be further reduced if some formula of presidential rule is reached. He noted that in recent years Radev and his staff have made attempts to promote the idea of a presidential republic.

Minchev sees a breakdown in the left part of the political spectrum. According to him, there is fragmentation that does not produce a project that makes sense from the point of view of the needs and national interests of Bulgaria. According to him, the situation on the right is similar. He noted that there is a strong clientelistic people's party like GERB, a powerful ethno-corporate pyramid like DPS, but there are also at least 1.5 million "free" voters who do not recognize GERB and DPS, but want to see an authentic center-right, balanced political force.

The political scientist emphasized that ITN, "Revival" and "Majesty" are anti-system parties. Minchev stated that the current political situation is a punishment for all those who easily dissolved the "Denkov" cabinet. According to him, GERB-SDS, DPS, as well as PP-DB are paying the bill for this.

According to him, there will be a government only if GERB and DPS come to an agreement with the smaller parties in the parliament.
