The former Minister of Agriculture Georgi Tanev died at the age of 88. He led the department in the period 1992-1994
He graduated with a degree in zootechnics at the Higher Agricultural Institute in Sofia, after which he began managing an animal farm. Between 1959 and 1962 he was a technologist in a milk processing plant. From 1962 he became a research assistant at the Institute of Animal Husbandry in Kostinbrod. In the period 1965-1969 he specialized in Poland and the Czech Republic. In 1972, he became a candidate of agricultural sciences. Since 1988, he has a doctor of biological sciences.
In the period 1983-1989 he was a senior researcher at the Institute of Genetic Engineering. He also specialized in Japan (1986-1987), and from 1989 to 1991 he was an associate professor. 1 st. at the Institute of Animal Husbandry. In 1991-1992 he was Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
