The measure to confiscate the cars of drunk and drugged drivers is yielding results. The technical means by which it is established whether there are narcotic substances or alcohol in the blood are extremely qualitative and it is a matter of legislation regarding tolerance. This was stated by Commissioner Maria Boteva from the Main Directorate of the National Police. in front of BNT.

She noted that the number of technical means used to detect traffic violations is increasing. Positive results can also be reported in terms of reducing the number of road deaths. A large number of cars are manufactured with many protections, but there are still vehicles in use that do not have good enough protections. Driving at a higher speed leads to the corresponding execution of incorrect maneuvers and this in itself leads to accidents, Maria Boteva pointed out.

There is no financial incentive for police officers. All fines that are collected fall into the traffic safety fund and there the procedures are according to the Public Procurement Act.

There is also a "Winter" action coming up, as well as an inspection of the road network. Starting tomorrow, a new action by the traffic police begins - whether drivers and passengers are wearing seat belts. She also called for seat belts to be installed in cars both in populated and non-populated places.

Maria Boteva also pointed out that electric scooters should not develop more than 20-25 km/h. The legislator has foreseen an additional protection, which at the moment has not been made and included in the law regarding bicycles. For individual electric vehicles, it is mandatory to use a safety helmet. It doesn't matter what age you are, when you don't know the law, you underestimate or overestimate it in relation to the vehicle, and this leads to situations that don't always have a good outcome, Commissioner Maria Boteva also said.
