If the procedure for selecting a new chief prosecutor starts next week, it will be a provocation to the judicial system, parliamentarism and Bulgarian society, Velislav Velichkov, "Justice for everyone", told BNR.
The Prosecutor's College will discuss on September 9 the proposal to resume the procedure for electing a chief prosecutor. It can then be submitted for discussion in the Plenum of the High Judicial Council.
"Borislav Sarafov has been in office for a year and three months now, and I see no problem with him continuing to do it for another half or a year, while the procedure for a new composition of the SJC takes place. This one has no representative legitimacy.
In addition, the current composition of the SJC has already been involved in several spectacular scandals and has shown its lack of integrity and moral criteria both in the election of Ivan Geshev and in his dismissal, as well as in the appointment of Sarafov as an acting official.
Velichkov believes that if the procedure in question is launched, "it will mean that someone is trying to make a political decision in his favor and appoint a chief prosecutor convenient for him.
"It is now becoming increasingly clear that the political orders come from a specific person in the state, who currently wants to ensure his safety through the prosecutor's office, and possibly through the future president of the Supreme Administrative Court, whose mandate is also expiring. to use them in the battle to control his party – I mean the DPS, as well as the entire country. Next week we will see if the SJC also becomes a hostage in this tough internal party battle in the most corporate Bulgarian party".
