The judiciary suffers from dependencies and conformism

Political party “Green Movement” strongly opposes the election of the chief prosecutor from the current Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) with an expired mandate.

The current composition of the SJC continues to manage the judicial system two years AFTER the end of the mandate.

This composition of the SJC created a series of major scandals. Above all, despite great public opposition, he chose Ivan Geshev as chief prosecutor. His election left serious doubts that it was the result of unscrupulous deals by people influencing the members of the council. Mr. Geshev's short term in office was accompanied by constant scandals related to his absolutely unacceptable behavior. Despite criticism, public indignation and accelerated procedures for his release, the members of the SJC remained blind to what was happening. All this continued until the moment when he lost support from the backstage behind GERB and DPS. Then, the members of the SJC, on command and again without a serious investigation of the facts, dismissed Mr. Geshev from his post.

At the same time, the Bulgarian society did not understand what was the reason for his deputy, Mr. Borislav Sarafov, to state that he felt threatened for his security and life and to request protection from the chief prosecutor; nor how such close and good partners and friends became such enemies. Instead of investigating these problems and giving the due answer to society, the SJC simply chose Borislav Sarafov as acting chief prosecutor. For more than a year now, he continues to lead the prosecutor's office without the members of the council taking action to clarify the numerous data presented in the media, raising serious doubts about his integrity and moral qualities - the mention of the “Eight Dwarfs” and his contacts, the missing Petyo Petrov, are absolutely necessary here, and the lack of any reaction from the SJC to disturbing data published in the media is deafening.

This is why the “Green Movement” believes that the current composition of the SJC has huge doubts about unflattering dependencies, which is why it cannot guarantee and make a publicly acceptable choice of a new chief prosecutor and has no moral and public legitimacy to do so.

Due to the stated considerations, we call for the election of a new acting chief prosecutor.

„Green Movement“ reminds that the judiciary suffers from dependencies and conformity, the result of decades of negative and often completely unprincipled personnel selection and clientelism, therefore public attention should be directed to the way it will be exercised in the coming years.
