The Sofia City Court set a bail of BGN 250 thousand BGN for Rumen Gaitanski, accused in the investigation of a loan granted by the Bulgarian Development Bank. The decision of the court is not final and is subject to appeal and protest, BTA reports.
Gaitanski's request to change his imposed permanent arrest to a lighter measure was considered today, with his lawyer Galya Galabova pleading for the imposition of a monetary guarantee. The prosecution joined the defense's request.
Rumen Gaitanski is accused of being the instigator of the investigation into a loan granted by the Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) for BGN 148.5 million. Gaitanski was detained by a prosecutor's measure for up to 72 hours after he voluntarily surrendered to the law enforcement authorities. In the case, the former executive director of BBR Stoyan Mavrodiev and Ivan Georgiev, representative of the company “Rodway Construction”, which received the loan, are also accused. Subsequently, Mavrodiev was declared a national wanted person by a decree of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
