Urgent measures are needed at the level of parliament and the executive power to control the water crisis in Bulgaria. For years, tens of municipalities and hundreds of thousands of citizens have been living in conditions of a water regime or low-quality water supply. The rulers who have been in various combinations and combinations for the last three years have not moved any key issue to solve the problem of lack of normal water supply.
This is stated in an official position of VMRO.
Instead, the topic was skilfully glossed over, while over a quarter of Bulgarian municipalities suffer from water shortages at various times of the year. Pleven is again on water regime, water supply is disrupted in the districts of Shumen, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad, Pernik, Kyustendil, Dobrich, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna, Pleven. Although the summer has passed due to the lack of a systematic and adequate policy in the management of the water supply sector, the problems continue. And this year, none of the key projects to solve the problems of whole municipalities was started. It is obvious that neither the Parliament nor the executive power - the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, have any intention of working to solve this key issue for the citizens. Just by replacing water pipes here and there in some populated place, the crisis will not be overcome. A large-scale and consistent policy is needed for the protection, conservation and saving of water resources.
We recall once again some of the proposals of VMRO - Bulgarian National Movement:
Creation of a state fund for investments in the water supply network for the replacement of water pipes in the areas with the greatest water losses - Dobrich, Targovishte, Silistra, Sofia region, Pernik. Every year, through this fund, the state, in the person of MRRD, can finance projects for the replacement of main water pipes, major repairs of treatment and pumping stations, reservoirs and boosters, which will reduce water losses;
Major repair of the Ogosta, Beli Iskar and Yovkovtsi dams. These three water bodies are key to the water supply of entire areas, they have been waiting for repairs for years, but the state has not moved its soil so far.
Construction of the "Nikudin" dams for the municipalities of Strumyani, Petrich Sandanski until 2028. Completion of the “Rakochevitsa" dam. for the water supply of Blagoevgrad and Simitli municipalities. Renewal of the construction of the "Byala" hydroelectric plant, which will provide water supply to 41 settlements in the region of Sevlievo, Gabrovo and Dryanovo.
These and other measures can be implemented, a matter of political will and decisions of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers. Part of the funds can easily be included in the draft state budget for 2025, as long as there is a desire to work and solve the issues important to citizens, and not to politicize.
The water supply problem will worsen if no action is taken. It will not resolve itself, regardless of whether the rainfall during the year is more, because a huge part of the drinking water resource is lost along the route from the water source to the user.
