We will be a real opposition, said the co-chair of „Continuing Change“ (PP) Kiril Petkov in a video uploaded to the party's YouTube channel and distributed on the PP's Facebook page, on the occasion of the upcoming vote on the cabinet proposals by Rosen Zhelyazkov.
According to Petkov, GERB is not used to having a real opposition. He added that on topics such as the convergence report on the eurozone and others that would bring positives to Bulgaria, the PP would support the new rulers.
Kiril Petkov also explained that the new cabinet will be given some time and the actions of the ministers will be monitored. How this government solves the real problems of the people will determine whether it makes sense or not, Petkov added. Among the problems that need to be solved, the co-chair of the PP highlighted the Recovery and Sustainability Plan and the adoption of the three bills necessary for this purpose - on whistleblowers, on the Anti-Corruption Commission and on personal bankruptcy. According to Kiril Petkov, it will be important whether the income policy will be preserved, whether a budget with a 3% deficit will be proposed and whether the state's expenses will not exceed 40% of the gross domestic product (GDP). We will also monitor whether the decrees of the Council of Ministers will give "some money to some of their people, some of their companies and some of their mayors", he added.
Kiril Petkov also commented on the changes adopted today in the Judiciary Act, which determine the term in which there can be a acting prosecutor general, as a partial victory. A result that was not the most optimal, but still a step forward, he added.
Today we took an important step forward: The Supreme Judicial Council, with an expired mandate, no longer has the right to elect a prosecutor general. In addition, Sarafov is the second prosecutor general who failed to receive a 7-year mandate and serve Peevski faithfully. The next prosecutor general, no matter who he (or she) will be, will know that the guarantees of the deep state are not certain and will have to take fewer risks by violating the law. Thus, Bulgaria took another step forward towards its change.
We recall that earlier today, the GERB-SDF nominee for prime minister, Rosen Zhelyazkov, received and immediately returned to the head of state the fulfilled mandate to form a government. “The support will be formalized with the vote tomorrow. We have a signed agreement between GERB-SDF, ITN and “BSP-United Left” – this is the coalition. Within the parliamentary majority, we will rely on the support of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms - DPS” – DPS“, Zhelyazkov pointed out.
