The electric train, which is one of the trains that crashed near Lokorsko, was cut off before the collision and it managed to stop. This was stated in the “Interview in NOVA News” by the mayor of the ”Kremikovtsi” district; Liliya Donkova.
"Apparently they realized in time to cut off the electric train's power and the train stopped. But the diesel train failed to stop and that's why the collision happened. They apparently sensed what mistake was being made or what was happening at the moment and managed to cut off the power to the electric train," she explained.
According to her, the only dangerous section in the area of the accident is a bend that does not provide visibility. "But, if everything is followed and the trains run according to schedule - there should be no problem. Rather, the area of the "Kremikovtsi" station, where maneuvers are made, is more dangerous. There, the barrier has been lowered for a very long time and it very often happens that cars pass illegally," she emphasized.
"Measurements have been made. No radiation has been found in the area of the train accident. There is no reason for people living in "Kremikovtsi" and "Novi Iskar" to worry about air pollution. One of the crashed trains was transporting scrap metal, and there was an explosion at the scene of the collision.
He added that in such a situation it is quite natural for those living in the area to be worried. “Until it is understood what is being transported in the trains. Because if it is something liquid, something explosive – the trains transport both gas and fuel, it could happen that a large territory of the Sofia Municipality will really be polluted”.
