Bozanov: The processes that are concentrated around the figure of Peevski are a systemic problem for the country - 1

Driven by responsibility to the country, we made an attempt to participate in negotiations to reach a broad majority in the country's government, which would implement the reforms that we had promised the voters. The negotiations were terminated by the GERB side due to the requirements in the draft agreement to limit Peevski's influence in the executive branch. So we do not regret that we have fulfilled the duty of every politician, namely to negotiate priorities. He said this in the program "Metronome" on Radio "Focus" the MP from the PP-DB parliamentary group Bozhidar Bozanov.

In his words, the processes that are concentrated around the figure of Peevski are a systemic problem for the country, which also lead to the current political crisis. "The agreement contained very specific measures that took away his instruments of influence in the judiciary, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the executive branch, some of which were supposedly agreed upon, but then we saw that they were dropped from the final version, which means that in fact there was no agreement,“ he explained and gave an example of how Peevski's influence on the judiciary goes precisely through personnel decisions and his control over the Supreme Administrative Court, which confirms these appointments.

According to Bozanov, the government will find it very difficult, as the interests of Peevski's MRF, which will have behind-the-scenes influences, and Dogan's MRF, which solves other problems for itself, will clash, and this will affect the stability of the government. DB is ready to support the government in its efforts to propose bills with content that meets the PP-DB's pre-election commitments, he added, giving an example of the consensus topic of Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone.

"We will support optimization of public spending. We will also support changes towards modernization, e-government, if there are good initiatives. At the same time, we will initiate legislative activity on these priorities, and we will expect the ruling majority, if they coincide with theirs, to support them. The modernization of the army is another thing on which we have had agreements with GERB and other political forces over the years. Just because we are in opposition to a government, we will not not support things that have been our thesis for years. We will not be radical, not everything will be denied, and we will not be destructive, because we believe that after so many years of political crisis, this destructiveness has limited benefits. People need to see in the opposition that it can be better,“ the MP is categorical.

Bozhidar Bozanov also shared that an in-depth discussion is underway between the PP and the DB, with different nuances in expressing their positions, but their major goals remain shared.

According to him, the changes to the Judiciary Act adopted on second reading will contribute to the implementation of better rules for the election of the so-called big three in the judiciary. “The procedure had certain deficiencies, which we corrected, and on this basis we terminated the procedure for the election of Sarafov specifically. Some of the changes were not supported by insufficiently strong arguments, but nevertheless the package was ultimately adopted,“ he said, adding that a new acting prosecutor general should be appointed after the changes, unless parliament finally fills its quota in the SJC.
