A serious amount of catch is among the reasons for the sinking of the fishing vessel near Primorsko. This assumption was made to “Telegraph“ by the marine specialist, K.D.P. Hristo Papukchiev.
According to him, one hypothesis is that there was a large amount of fish on board, which led to extreme draft of the sea vessel and instability in the increased waves. “The other hypothesis is about the use of a bottom trawl, which acted as a kind of anchor during a sharp turn. At such a moment, even a small wave can capsize the vessel in seconds“, explained the expert.
Yesterday, the second day of the search operation for the three fishermen who disappeared with their boat on Wednesday morning continued. A total of seven volunteer teams set off on a patrol along the coast. They walked the stretch from the "Kavatsi" campsite in the direction of Maslen Nos. The first pedestrian patrol in the area was carried out on Wednesday, but there is no trace of the missing and the ship. The rescue operation involved boats and the frigate "Drazki", which patrolled the sea in the area of the coordinates from which the last signal from the ship was received.
The men missing at sea are Captain Hristo Spasov, his 25-year-old son and their friend from Balchik. Yesterday, the other son of Capt. Spasov - Hristiyan, who explained that his father is a very experienced fisherman and has been involved in fishing for years. Volunteer teams are searching for debris from the vessel and life rafts. The ship's disappearance without a trace has provoked a hypothesis in maritime circles and among local residents that an explosion may have occurred on board or that the ship may have hit a sea mine.
However, there is no such evidence for now. The guesses are based solely on the rapid sinking of the ship, which, according to those familiar with the matter, occurred in a matter of minutes. Yesterday, a team of volunteers also noticed an oil slick in the sea near the place where radio contact with the ship was lost. The depth in the area of the discovered oil slick is 38 meters.
