Fine dust particles many times above the norm. This was reported by the Regional Inspectorate for Environment, Water and Fire Protection in Pernik yesterday. The reason - dust that the strong wind raises from one of the sedimentation tanks of the TPP in the city, bTV reported.
The employees of the Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and Water inspected the slag dump “Kudin Dol“ yesterday, an inspection was also carried out outside the slag dump site.
The presence of dusty unorganized emissions from the slag dump “Kudin Dol“ was established, the two sites of which (cell No. 1 and cell No. 2) are intended for temporary storage of production waste from the activities of the TPP “Republika“.
Dust is rising from the surface of site No. 2, forming a dense gray blanket and dusting the territory around the slag dump and beyond. It is also directed towards the residential neighborhoods “Iztok“, “Moshino“ and “Teva“ in Pernik.
“This morning is a bit better than yesterday. Unfortunately, the forecast is not in our favor. Strong southerly winds are forecast until Sunday. A huge cloud of fine dust particles is swirling, which is going to the eastern part of the city“, said in “This Morning“ Pernik Mayor Stanislav Vladimirov.
“Yesterday around noon I was in the “Moshino“ district for a long time, after which my hair became like a wax figure. It was unbearable, you couldn't breathe," said Vladimirov.
The experts also found that there were no employees and equipment of the company that uses the facilities to prevent and limit the spread of dust emissions into the air at the site.
The sprinkler installation was not working. The RIEW-Sofia also reported that the operator had not taken the necessary effective measures to limit the formation of unorganized dust emissions.
The company was given copies of instructions to prevent unorganized emissions on the site, and to inform the RIEW-Sofia in writing about the actions taken.
A similar inspection was carried out in October last year. And then the RIEW-Sofia reported that the inspection would monitor the strict compliance of "Toplofikatsiya Pernik" with the requirements of environmental legislation. and will take appropriate sanctions if new violations are identified.
According to the mayor of Pernik, the sanctions should be harsher from the RIEW, and the regulations - more categorical.
