A shake-up in “We continue the change“ - a total of four municipal councilors and district mayors in Sofia are leaving with corruption charges. The mayor of the “Lyulin“ district, Georgi Todorov, has already given testimony, was summoned by the investigating authorities, and has said everything he knows about corrupt practices and public procurement. This is clear from his Facebook post.
The Deputy Mayor for “Finance and Healthcare“ of Sofia Municipality - Ivan Vassilev, described the accusations of the municipal councilors and district mayors as “extremely worrying“ and called for more details on them.
And he said that a meeting of Mayor Vasil Terziev with both the councilors and district mayors, as well as the leadership of “Continuing the change“ is coming.
We recall that yesterday Terziev ordered an inspection in the districts “Lyulin“ and “Mladost“ – the results of which are expected to be released in the next three working days.
Ivan Vassilev denied that he had received information about pressure exerted on the mayors and councilors and assured:
“If it had reached him, there would have been appropriate actions“.
“There are 9 deputy mayors in the Sofia Municipality, and each – after the adoption of the budget, receives a certain amount, which he distributes among his own department. As deputy mayor for finance, my responsibility is to make a balance of where and how the money will go as a general distribution, then my colleagues deputy mayors from the different directions manage this resource ahead of the year – they spend the funds, they are the ones who award the public procurement contracts“, he also said.
