American musician Paul Simon turned 83.

He was born on October 13, 1941 in Newark, USA and became famous in the music world first as part of the duo "Simon and Garfunkle", then established his name with solo performances.

During the collaboration with Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon wrote most of the songs, including three that reached number one on the US singles charts: “The Sound of Silence“, “Mrs. Robinson“ and “Bridge Over Troubled Water“.

The duo split in 1970 and Simon began a successful solo career, recording three critically acclaimed albums over the next five years.

He has won many awards as part of the duo Simon and Garfunkel, including 12 Grammy Awards, three of which are for Album of the Year (“Bridge Over Troubled Water“, “Still Crazy After All These Years“ and “Graceland“ ). In 2003, he also received a Grammy for lifetime achievement. His song “Mrs. Robinson“ from the movie “The Graduate“ is in the top ten in the “100 Songs for 100 Years” (in English: 100 Years 100 Songs) of the American Film Institute.

Simon has been married three times, with his last marriage to Eddie Brickell dating back to 1992. Before that, the musician was married to Peggy Harper from 1969 to 1975 and to actress Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia of "Star Wars", for six months between 1983-1984. He has three children with Brickell Simon, as well as one with his first wife.
