Horrifying details of the death of a former top model from Switzerland have come out Kristina Joksimovic, writes unilad.com.

In 2007, the world was at her fingertips after she was crowned Miss Northwest Switzerland and became a finalist for Miss Switzerland.

This boosted her career in fashion, with her starting her own business as a catwalk trainer and mentoring compatriot and colleague Dominique Rinderknecht for the Miss Universe pageant six years later.

But her glamorous life in the modeling world took a drastic turn, and 17 years after she paraded alongside the elite, the 38-year-old beauty was found dead at her home in February.

Joksimowicz lived in Binningen, a municipality south of Basel, next to the French and German borders.

On the evening before Valentine's Day (February 13), the mother of two was found dead by a “third party”, local media reported at the time.

A Swiss police investigation into her death has since been launched, with a man named only as Thomas, 41, named as the prime suspect.

Authorities say Thomas, who was Joksimovic's husband, strangled his wife before chopping her body into small pieces and mixing them together.

He remains in prison following his arrest after his appeal to the Swiss Federal Court was rejected by judges.

BZ Basel reports that the accused confessed to killing his wife in March, during a crime scene.

At this point, he claims he was acting in self-defense, as he claims Joksimovic had previously attacked him with a knife.

This contradicts his earlier claims that he found his wife dead and decided to dismember her in the laundry room in a panic.

A medical examiner's report further refutes his claim of self-defense.

The publication says the report shows how she was strangled before being butchered with garden shears, an electric saw and a knife.

Then pieces of it were “chopped with a hand blender, pureed and dissolved in a chemical”.

The suspect was arrested the day after Joksimovic's body was found and is awaiting trial.
